Cultural Space beyond Humanity

2. 2026 Exhibition Objectives
The 2026 KICAS (Korea Institute of Culture Architecture & Design) International Invitational Exhibition embarks on a profound re-examination of architecture and cultural space through the lens of Graham Harman’s "Object-Oriented Ontology." Historically, cultural spaces have been relegated to a passive "Background"—mere vessels designed to preserve human heritage or accommodate human activity. Today, we seek to liberate cultural space its role as a functional tool for humanity, encountering it instead as an "Object" possessed of its own inherent vitality and autonomy.
"Cultural Space Beyond Humanity" is not a rejection of the human presence; rather, it is a deliberate repositioning of the human as one object among many, rather than the absolute master of space. The projects exhibited here "withdraw" from human utility to interact on equal terms with flora, fauna, technology, and the environment. In doing so, we invite you to witness the emergence of newly defined possibilities for what a cultural space can truly be.

3. 2026 Exhibition Brief
• Participating countries: 7 countries and more
• Exhibition Theme: The Architecture of Belonging
• Categories:
1) There are no restrictions on the scale or function of the space, 
whether it is an interior or exterior space, or whether its context is manmade or natural. All works that embrace cultural activities are eligible for the submission. 

2) Submission panel size of each work is 50cm in
width and 50cm in height, and its contents and format are free. 

3) Visual materials such as sketches, photographs, posters, and diagrams that contain content related to cultural space are also eligible.

- Open to all designers, architects and planners worldwide


4. Exhibition Schedule & Venue
• Dates: NOV. 20, 2026 (FRI)~ NOV. 25, 2026(WED) (10:00 AM to 5:00 PM) (For 6 Days)
• Venue: Dongdaemun Design Plaza, DDP

5. Submission Guideline
1) Requirement
① Entry Form: Attached file (entry_form.doc)
② Self-portrait image:
Size[20㎜(W)×25㎜(H)], Resolution 300dpi, Jpg file.
(File name: participant’s name+photo.jpg i.e.) johndoephoto.jpg )
③ Project Image:
Size[500㎜(W)×500㎜(H)] (1page including English title and texts), Resolution 300dpi, jpg file. (File name: participant’s name+project.jpg i.e.) johndoeproject.jpg )

2) Submission Methods
Web Server (http://www.webhard.co.kr, ID: kicaspace, PW: 8241)
- Download entry form from ‘Download only’ folder.
- Create a new folder with applicant’s name in ‘Upload only’ folder.
- Upload entry form, self-portrait image, and project image files.

3) Submission Duration
SEP. 01. 2026 ~ OCT. 23 (FRI) 5PM (UTC+09)

4) Entry Fee
Not required for participants from foreign countries.

5) Exhibition & Publication
① Organizer will print and exhibit participants’ work, and publish exhibition catalog.
② Local participants will receive a printed copy of exhibition catalogue by post, whereas overseas participants will receive PDF of exhibition catalog via an e-mail. (Printed copies will be sent overseas upon request. However, postage charge will incur)

주제 : 인간너머의 문화공간(Cultural Space Beyond Humanity)
 
2026 한국문화공간건축학회(KICAS) 국제초대전은 철학자 그레이엄 하먼의 ‘객체지향 존재론(Object-Oriented Ontology)’을 통해 건축과 문화공간의 본질을 새롭게 탐색합니다. 그동안 문화공간은 인간의 유산을 보관하거나 행위를 수용하는 수동적인 ‘배경(Background)’으로 정의되어 왔습니다. 하지만 이제 우리는 문화공간을, 인간만을 위한 도구에서 해방시켜, 그 자체로 고유한 생명력과 자율성을 지닌 ‘객체(Object)’로 마주하고자 합니다.
'인간 너머의 문화공간(Cultural Space Beyond Humanity)'은 인간을 배제하는 것이 아니라, 인간을 공간의 절대적 주인이 아닌 여러 객체 중 하나로 재배치하는 시도입니다. 이번 전시에서 소개되는 문화공간들은 인간의 쓰임새로부터 기꺼이 물러나(withdrawn), 동식물, 기술, 그리고 환경과 대등하게 상호작용하는 모습을 보여줍니다. 그리고 그 속에서 새롭게 정의되는 문화공간의 가능성을 목격할 수 있습니다.

[작품 주제 및 내용]
• 참가국가수 : 7개국 이상
• 작품주제 : 인간너머의 문화공간(Cultural Space beyond Humanity)
• 출품내용 :
① 작은 공간, 건축물의 내, 외부, 도시공간, 자연환경 등 맥락의 스케일이나 건물의
기능에 제한없이 다양한 문화활동을 포용하고 독려하는 모든 작품은 출품 가능.
② 문화공간과 관련된 콘텐츠가 포함된 스케치, 사진, 포스터, 다이어그램 등 시각적
자료 가능
③ 내용 및 형식 자유

내리기전용에서 ‘2026 국제초대전’ 폴더의 출품원서, 출품안내 공문 다운받기,
올리기전용에서 ‘2026 국제초대전’ 폴더안에 새폴더(작가명) 형성 후,
출품원서, 출품자사진, 작품파일 업로드(중복 업로드 불가)
 
3. 제출기한
2026년 10월 23일(금) 오후 5시까지
 
4. 출품비
① 출품자는 제출물의 업로드 완료 이전까지 250,000(원)을 입금

5. 전시 및 작품집 발간
① 출품자가 웹하드에 업로드 한 데이터로 학회에서 일괄적으로 출력, 전시, 작품집 발간
② 입금이 완료된 출품자에게 작품집 2부 발송(국내 참가자에 한함)
